Classical Ayurveda,
practised where it was truly born.
Kottathil Ayurveda Hospital — a hospital, not a spa — has practised traditional Ayurveda from the heart of Kottayam district since 2002. Personalised protocols by a BAMS physician, genuine Panchakarma, and the unhurried care that classical medicine requires.

The Hospital · 01
A hospital that heals the way Ayurveda intended.
In 2002, on the quiet outskirts of Ayarkunnam panchayat in Kottayam district — where paddy
fields edge up to rubber gardens and the backwaters of Kerala are always close — Dr. Jogi T.
Sebastian BAMS founded Kottathil Ayurveda Hospital. Not as a wellness resort. Not as a
packaged treatment centre. But as a genuine chikitsa sthalam
— a place of healing where classical Ayurveda would be practised with the attention and
continuity the tradition demands.
Kottayam district sits at the heart of Kerala's Ayurveda country. The forests, the rainfall,
the medicinal herb gardens, and the unbroken lineage of Keraliya Panchakarma practitioners —
all of it makes this district one of the most authentic settings for traditional Ayurveda
treatment in India. Kottathil Hospital was established to work within that tradition, not
apart from it.
"Kerala is where Ayurveda has never been interrupted — and this hospital was built to keep it that way."
Dr. Sebastian sees each patient personally. Every programme begins with a constitution
assessment, a review of the patient's history, and a protocol written from scratch. There
are no standardised packages, no fixed menus of treatments. Each course of care is the
physician's, shaped by the patient's specific condition, the current season, and the time
available for genuine healing.
More than two decades of practice have shown what authentic Ayurveda can do for chronic
conditions, for patients whose other treatments have reached a limit, and for those who
simply want to restore what daily life steadily depletes. The work here is patient and
thorough. That is not a selling point — it is just what the medicine requires.

Classical knowledge, applied with care.
"Ayurveda works when it is practised fully — with the right diet, the right medicines, the right rhythm of daily life, and enough time. Kerala gives all of these."

A personal approach
Every patient at Kottathil receives a direct consultation with Dr. Sebastian.
Constitution (Prakriti) assessment, medical history, current condition, and the
season — all are considered before any protocol is written. There are no fixed
packages here. Each programme is built for the individual and supervised day to day.

Keraliya Panchakarma
Kerala's tradition of Panchakarma is distinct — a line of classical practice that
has continued without interruption in the region's hospitals and gurukulas for
centuries. Kottathil practises within that tradition: authentic preparations,
classical procedures, and the physician's full oversight at every stage of treatment.

The Tradition
Classical Keraliya Practice
Kottathil practises Ayurveda as it has been practised in this region for generations —
with authentic herbal preparations, classical Panchakarma procedures, and the
physician's full attention at every stage. The tradition here has never been
replaced by convenience. It is the same medicine, practised the same way.
Kottathil Ayurveda Hospital · Established 2002
Located at Chappathu, Amayannoor P.O., Ayarkunnam, Kottayam 686019 — in the interior of Kottayam district, among the paddy fields and rubber gardens that have sustained Kerala's Ayurveda tradition for centuries. Consultations and programme enquiries are welcome in person, by telephone, or by email.

Five treatment programmes. Each written for you.
Every programme at Kottathil begins with a personal consultation — Dr. Sebastian assesses your constitution, medical history, season, and purpose, then builds the protocol from there. Panchakarma
14 to 28 days · physician-supervised
The classical five-action purification — Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya,
Raktamokshana — prescribed and supervised by Dr. Sebastian. Keraliya Panchakarma
includes the preparatory Snehana and Svedana procedures that make the main
therapies fully effective. Not a package: a clinical protocol shaped to your
constitution and current condition.
A systematic reset for body and mind. Daily oil therapies, prescribed diet,
herbal formulations, and regulated rest — designed to restore what daily life
steadily depletes. Suitable for those seeking genuine renewal without a specific
pathological condition as the entry point.
For arthritis, spondylosis, knee pain, cervical conditions, and back pain —
the full range of Keraliya treatments: Kizhi, Pizhichil, Navarakizhi, Basti,
and targeted medicated oil therapies. Many patients arrive after conventional
treatment has reached its limit. The physician's plan is built from the ground up.
Eczema, psoriasis, chronic skin conditions — addressed through Ayurveda's
internal purification approach. The protocol combines Shodhana cleansing
therapies with prescribed diet and herbal preparations aimed at the root cause,
not symptomatic relief alone. Patience and full dietary compliance are required.
For diabetes management, obesity, hypertension, stress-related conditions, and
lifestyle disorders where conventional medicine manages symptoms without addressing
the cause. Ayurveda's approach here is comprehensive — diet therapy, herbal
medicine, Panchakarma, and daily routine restructuring work together. The physician
designs the programme to the patient's specific situation. Follow-up protocols
for continuation at home are included in every programme.
Comfortable rooms. Built for healing, not display.
Kottathil Ayurveda Hospital provides calm, clean, and well-ventilated rooms designed to support recovery and rest. Natural light, cross-ventilation, and quiet surroundings — so the body can do its deepest work. In-patient accommodation is available for those undertaking full treatment programmes.
Gentle morning practice — postures, breath, and stillness before the day's treatment begins. Sets body and mind for the therapies to follow.
8:00
Prescribed breakfast
A light, individually prescribed vegetarian meal — timed and composed to support the morning treatment sessions according to the physician's protocol.
9:00
Doctor consultation
Daily morning review with Dr. Sebastian — programme adjustments, observations, herbal prescription updates. The physician checks each in-patient personally each morning.
10:00
Treatment sessions
The day's Ayurveda therapies — Abhyanga, Shirodhara, Podikizhi, Pizhichil, Basti, Nasya — according to the physician's protocol for each patient's programme.
13:00
Prescribed lunch
The principal meal of the day — cooked to each patient's prescribed diet, served at the time the digestive fire (Agni) is at its strongest. The meal is medicine.
16:00
Afternoon treatment & rest
Second treatment session or rest, depending on the programme stage — time to walk the grounds, receive herbal preparations, or simply be still.
20:00
Light dinner & early rest
A warm, light, prescribed meal — simple, sattvic, timed early. Sleep is part of the treatment. The body does its deepest recovery work in the quiet of the night.
The Setting · 06
Kottayam — where healing was always practised.
Kottathil Hospital sits in Ayarkunnam, one of Kottayam's interior panchayats — among paddy fields, rubber gardens, and the backwaters that make this region one of the most naturally medicinal settings in Kerala. The environment is itself part of the healing.
The kitchen at Kottathil prepares entirely vegetarian, sattvic meals — prescribed
individually by Dr. Sebastian, aligned with each patient's constitution, programme
stage, and the current season. Meals are not chosen from a menu; they are part of
the treatment protocol. Fresh Kerala ingredients, traditional preparations, ghee
and medicinal herbs in measured proportion — cooked and served at the times the
body is most ready to receive them. Ayurveda holds that food, properly given, is
the most powerful medicine of all.

In their own words.
Dr. Sebastian's approach is unlike anything I had experienced before. He took the time to truly understand my condition — no rush, no standard protocol. The treatment worked where nothing else had.
PatientErnakulam · Arthritis treatment
I came for a 21-day Panchakarma programme and left with a completely different understanding of what my health could be. The prescribed diet, the daily rhythm, the physician's attention — all of it together.
PatientThiruvananthapuram · Panchakarma
Three years of psoriasis, properly addressed in 28 days. The diet was strict and the medicine was traditional — but it addressed the root cause, not just the surface. I returned the following year for a maintenance programme.
PatientThrissur · Skin treatment
We travel from Dubai every year for Dr. Sebastian's care. There are Ayurveda centres in the Gulf, but nothing with this level of clinical depth and individual attention. Kottayam is worth the journey every time.

Returning home for genuine healing.
Many of Kottathil's patients are Keralites returning from the Gulf, from other
Indian cities, or from abroad — coming home specifically for a course of classical
Ayurveda treatment. They come because genuine Panchakarma, practised correctly,
requires the climate, the medicinal preparations, and the physician lineage that
only Kerala provides. And they come because Dr. Sebastian offers the same quality
of care whether a patient has travelled from Ayarkunnam or from Abu Dhabi.
If you are planning a visit from outside Kerala — from the Gulf, from another
Indian city, or from abroad — please enquire in advance. Dr. Sebastian will respond
with a recommended programme, available dates, and full information on in-patient
accommodation and local arrival arrangements.
